Will they, won't they?

A typical newsday in Armenia-world relations:

CHIRAC: TURKEY WILL NEED TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN KILLINGS DURING ENTRY TALKS
US SAYS IT ACKNOWLEDGES ARMENIAN TRADGEDY
ABDULLAH GUL CONSIDERS THAT ISSUES OF OPENING OF ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER AND RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE NOT INCLUDED IN EU CRITERIA

And these are all from the same website.

It's a good indication of the will they, won't they nature of this subject. I don't think they will. Europe will back down or smudge the issue so much that it has no meaning. I'm talking about Genocide recognition, of course. The issue which is very much likelier to happen in my (albeit uneducated) opinion is that a compromise will be reached on the border issue.

However, the key thing to remember here is that we are talking about years and years of negotiations.

Additional information:
NPR has an audio stream of a report on the Turkey EU bid.

There is a comprehensive report on this issue by Zaman Online.

Armenian Genocide is an issue; whether they recognize or not, Armenians and people who know about this will never forget. So it's good that Turks also remember what they have done, that is why they are so freking out when somone says "Genocide" in front of them...

I wish Turkey becomes a member of EU, I would love to see europeans suffering from Turks *me is being mean* >:)
