The Karabakh conflict represented a departure for Armenians from their historic feelings of helplessness. As a Karabakh Armenian, Mr. Kocharian presents himself as a strong defender of the Armenian nation and appeals to the pride of Armenians that is born from their collective tragedy and shared suffering.
