I walked all around Yerevan yesterday and the amount of (semi-random and seemingly unecessary in some places) construction has caused so much dust I was sneezing the entire time. I'm not even a big sneezer normally, but I did far more times than I ever have in my entire life. Sure I was walking through some of the older parts of Kentron around Mashdots as opposed to the Abovyan area, but still...! Nearly unbearable!

North Avenue is probably one of the worst examples of urban planning I've ever encountered. As a pedestrian mall designed to attract foot traffic its so unappealing that any retail outlets in that dried-out canyon will probably close in a hurry. The rest of the city is a dusty, garbled heap of bricks, pipes and dirt. Any major infrastructal projects seem to last forever.

I used the new terminal on April 07 when it was not 100% complete and frankly I was surprised. All looked OK but the toilet smell chracteristic to the Soviet airports and train stations was there. I am flying in few months so I will check out if that has been fixed. I hope it was just a dodgy plumbing job.
