Gohar Gasparyan Passed Away
Armenian opera singer Gohar Gasparyan passed away yesterday, at the age of 83. She was born in Egypt and moved to Armenia in the forties. Her songs were heard throughout the former USSR as well as in Europe. Condolences go to her family.
A great loss. I had the chance to meet her in the eighties as a schoolboy when she came to visit the Melkonian Institute and my parents gave a dinner party in her honour at ours. Beautiful voice, great character. A true Yekibtahye to the end.
