Armenian Blog Catalogue
Dear Bloggers,
I have put together this little catalogue of blog links at the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_blogs and was planning to keep it secret until putting as many entries as possible, but since Bekaisa, Followtheway and ALS Movement have discovered and made it public I officially announce the catalogue open.
From this moment on - it is yours to modify, add, delete, etc. I will be watching out at the changes and adding more entries as time goes on - but - there is a huge Armenian blogging community already - 59 entries on my catalogue alone! And I see that there is at least 100 more to add… so don’t expect me to add all of them - if you see your blog is not there - add it yourself, or at least post the URL and the description you would like about it here in the comments section.
Keep blogging, its fun!
Best,
Observer - Angry Root

Good job. Thank you.

One of the Wiki admins has deleted the page. I have the backup and can restore it, but at this point I think it is useful to reflect - do we really need such a catalogue?

Was it deleted?
Comment by RA — 2/27/2007 @ 4:55 pm
That’s exactly what I was going to say.
Good idea, and that will make the links to blogs on our blogs obsolete

Oh-oh. The page has been deleted.

The Wikipedia site has been deleted already! Why?
Comment by Liborale — 2/27/2007 @ 7:10 pm
I guess the page was only links and violated WIKI rules.

Restored the Wiki article and made major changes. Still not sure if I’m doing a useful thing or not… some of the Livejournal users seemed pretty reluctant to be linked to in the catalogue, however, everyone not wanting to see their blog in there can easily delete it…

You should create that page on Armeniapedia, not Wikipedia. The Wikipedia administrators usually don’t allow pages like that to be created unless they link to newspapers, not blogs.

I think the best place for such list is on www.armeniapedia.org and there already is a page for it:
http://www.armeniapedia.org/index.php?title=Armenian_Online_Journals
blogian was not on there so I think the wikipedia list might be more complete.

I plan to add all the content on the Wikipedia article to the Armeniapedia as well. Having a backup on two online encyclopedias will only be more helpful…

Irish Guy has put your Wikipedia entry in the consideration for deletion category. You may have to remove the blog links and provide a link to Armeniapedia.

Hi Observer,
If the contents of the current entry in Wikipedia still doesn’t meet the wiki rules then there isn’t much that can be done about it. World knowledge is starting to come under the motto of “live under the wikipedia rules, die under the wikipedia rules”
It’s good to see healthy armenian blogosphere, specially those written in Armenian. Reading them is a good way to keep one’s armenian sharp.

Liborale - I think that’s exactly what I’ll do in the end.

Narbey - thanx for the input. The only reason I decided to make this list, is to try and encourage the Armenian bloggers and to indirectly show, how few are the Armenian language blogs. I think it really is time to start blogging in Armenian, especially as Armenian Unicode has become universally supported by all operating systems and blogging platforms. In fact I first started blogging in Armenian a couple of years back, but had to give up because of too many problems with encoding, but all the problems posed then, are a thing of the past now, so no real reason to only stick to English or Russian.

Observer,
I prefer your categorization on Wikipedia to the Armeniapedia categorization. Why dont you propose to Armeniapedia to redo the “Armenian Online Journals” section according to language: Armenian Blogs, English Blogs, Russian Blogs, French Blogs, Arabic Blogs, etc.
Comment by Liborale — 3/2/2007 @ 5:46 pm
I finally gave up on the idea and moved some of the information from it into the Armeniapedia. Also, for the big fans of Language based categorization, I have copied all the entries at the Wiki to my blog here: http://ditord.wordpress.com/about/armenian-blogs/
Overall, the experiment was successful, during the 10 or so days of its existence I received a lot of input from bloggers at the Wiki page who added more then I would ever be able to do alone - so thank you guys. I will keep the maintaining that list at my blog and will also take a look at the Armeniapedia’s version every now and then to make sure the lists match.

I wish I could blog in Armenian, but …my grammar/spelling/language is not of a high enough standard. I am sorry guys

btw - this is one of the main reason I created Armeniapedia - you can put info on it that’s not welcome on Wikipedia. From Armenian recipes/cookbook to articles not “important enough” for Wikipedia.
but a few weeks ago I was wondering if the list of Armenian blogs can really hope to be maintained in the near future as the number continues to explode…
