More, errr… hockey
You think that I would learn to keep my mouth shut on this topic, but I had to share: We got a great comment today with more info on Armenian hockey AND a link to a page that included the hockey team’s jersey.

Roupen N. - I have tried to contact Ice Hockey Armenia but have been so far unsuccessful, but who knows. I won’t quit easily.
Firefly - those numbers probobly reflect 2003 statistics, but unfortunately, I don’t know much about women’s european hockey. As far as the Olympics, USA and Canada have a stronghold on the women’s game.
For All - The World Championships Div 3 is coming up in Reykjavik, ICELAND in late april. This link should keep you somewhat up to date with the goings on at the event.

It’s along link. Note that the first game is agains Turkey. This is the team the Armenians had some success with in the U20 (Under 20) champs that just went by (lossing 28-3. That’s three goals for the Armenians, a scoring fest for them). Cheer them on!
I am findign that my attention in hockey (I am a big fan of the game) is turned entirely to the Armenians. I keep thinking of stratigy, skating, goaltending, and anything that would help. I wonder what their equipment is like. What is it like to play Turkey in an international competition.

A good born-Armenian hockey player was Micah Aivazoff. He played for Detroit Red Wings in 1993-1994, but mostly known in WHL, IHL and German Champ. I am trying to find him and invite to play for Armenia. He actually quit professional career only in 2002, so probably he still can be helpful.

April 25 2006 — REYKJAVIK, Iceland — Armenian ice hockey history was written as Armenia’s national team won its first game ever as it defeated Ireland 6-0 in the 2006 IIHF World Championship, Division III in Reykjavik. John Ghazanchyan was the hero with two goals and three assists while Gevork Kandakharyan had one goal and three assists. Goaltender Lavik Ghazaryan was credited with the shutout, also a historic first. Armenia, who going into the championship was ranked 45th out 45 nations in the IIHF World Ranking, debuted in the IIHF World Championship program in 2004. The historic win came in Armenia’s 10th world championship game. It is a remarkable result given the fact that Armenia lost to Ireland 15-1 in the Division III championship two years ago.
