Internet Prices Go Down
Wow, technology is on all of our minds this week! ArmenTel’s PR rep told RanArmenian.net that the price for backend internet is going down as of July 1 (i.e. not for individual business or personal ISPs just yet.)
A 2MB fiber optic line used to be $21,000 and now it is $16,000. [editorial comment: still outrageous] Burlington Vermont telecom is $550 for the same line.
Arminco responded by saying that they’d reduce their fees down the road.

Hi there.
Does this mean there is no broadband available for a home user? I assume there is no cable but what about DSL? I live in Manhattan and my cable modem clocks 4.6Mbits/sec. I could probably live with half that and was wondering how much in dollars something like that would cost in Yerevan. I assume $16k is an annual cost?
thanks.

Hi Armen,
There is DSL for a home user but it is REALLY slow. The 2MB line is for businesses at $16k. arminco.com is one provider. Check www.armeniapedia.org and click on living in Armenia.
