Azeris Don’t Want War (Yet)
Speaking in Yerevan, ArmInfo quotes Arif Yunusov as saying that the majority of Azeris don’t want to see renewed conflict with Armenia (yet). According to the Azeri analyst and activist, 40% of the population of Azerbaijan want to see the war resume while 30% don’t. The remainder are undecided.
Visiting Armenia for an International Conference on the Caucasus, Yunusov said that recent skirmishes on the contact line resulted in approximately fifty deaths on both sides. Stressing the need to nurture closer contact between Armenians and Azeris, he was also resigned to continuing stalemate over Karabagh.

Yes, let’s give them back the “occupied territories”, so that they can use it to launch attacks against Karabakh… Let us play the defeatist card one more time.

Dan,
Unfortunately, Azeris are filthy liars. And they do have a propaganda against Armenia. Azeris say that Armenia is used to be Azeribaijani territory and that they will get it back. And at the same time they say Azerbaijan does not want war? This is bogus.
Also, dan, get used to the new territorial map of the Armenia
It’s not the ‘lady’s head anymore
it’s much larger now.

AZERI POLITICAL SCIENTIST COMMENTING ON ILHAM ALIYEV’S ANTI-ARMENIAN POSITION
29.04.2005 07:10
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Ilham Aliyev gave the nod to preventing participation of Armenian officers in Cooperative Best Effort 2004 NATO exercise in Baku last September, Head of the Department of Conflictology and Migration of the Azerbaijani Institute of Peace and Democracy Arif Yunusov stated in Yerevan today. In his words, during the press conference held after the cancellation of the exercise Ilham Aliyev openly said it was his wish. Hakob, I understand your feelings, but please refrain from using generalizations like all members of a specific nationality or ethnic group are “filthy liars.” It is ignorant and inappropriate.

So, let me get this straight, Hagop. In one comment you are criticizing and condemning anything Arif Yunusov says during his visit to Yerevan and then, in another, you are actually quoting him. I just don’t get it. You can’t have it both ways.

I hate to sound like a warmonger but the problem with this conflict is that Armenia was never suppose to win. Outgunned and outmaned Armenians turned defeats into victories (at terrible cost mind you). But the Armenian victory was not complete. I mean imagin if the Armenian Army was to march into BAKU. Not to occupy but to force a peace treaty on Yerevan’s terms. The smell of oil has the major powers against Armenia. So Armenian dependance on Russia grows. And the Azeris are biding their time, Ilham keeps the refugees destitute and dictates to the people. Early peace is now more urgent as never before. Without a peace treaty, corruption and lack of democracy will turn Armenia into a mini-poorer Russia.

Onnikzadeh,
I posted the PanARMENIAN news to highlight the following:
“The Azerbaijan President also supported the Organization for Karabakh liberation, whose activists assaulted the Armenian officers during the NATO planning conference.”
Alan,
Just remember that Putin is not controled by Jews.

No more anti-semetic comments on this blog, please, or at least in my comments.
Incidentally, the quote from the article you say you want people to read comes from what I assume Yunusov said.

Hakob, please watch the insensitive comments. Thank you.
