Assyrian Education

Assyrian kids in Armenia are taught in Russian, not Assyrian. For a minority that is so large in Armenia, is this acceptable?

  1. I’ve been to an Assyrian language class in Dimitrov in Armenia and interestingly, many of the Armenians living there (it’s a 50/50 split in population) also speak the language as well as take part in Assyrian cultural festivals. So, there is education in the Assyrian language just as there is in Kurmanji for Yezidi and Kurdish minorities. The problem is more with financial and technical resources and in particular, teachers and textbooks. The problem is recognized and the Government and UNICEF are apparently seeking to resolve this issue in the latter’s new 5-year country cycle. Incidentally, the same problems exist for many vulnerable refugee children.
